Water Sports
Surfing is the most popular water sport in the area, especially on Salsa Brave, the most famous wave of Costa Rica. However, be warned of the strong rip current - swimming is not advisable on this beach. Dive in the blue water and discover a beautiful pristine coral reef ecosystem. Angel Fish, Trigger Fish, Parrot Fish, Sharks and different species of Jack and Snapper are among the 475 species of fish visitors can spot. Ocean kayaking and boogie boarding are other water sports that travelers can enjoy!

White Water Rafting
Puerto Viejo is very close to the Pacuare River, which has being rated as one of the top five rivers for water rafting in the world. Surrounded by mountains and natural life, this river is excellent for white water rafting lovers.

Rent a bike or ride a horse on the beach, around town, or discover other remote beaches on the Caribbean Coast next to Puerto Viejo.

Shoping
On Saturday mornings the organic market opens. This is a great option if you want to buy fresh fruit and vegetables as well as the typical “Pati” (a spicy meat pastry), home made cheese, artisan chocolate or granola. There are also many souvenir shops that sell handicrafts made by the local artists.
