Theaters
San Jose offers a wide variety of events and cultural activities during the week in the National Theater, Popular Melico Salazar theater, Lucho Baraona theater and others.

National Museum
The National Museum features 2 different types of exhibitions: a permanent exhibition based on anthropology and history divided in four sections and some temporary exhibitions based on new scientific investigations.

Gold Museum
The Gold museum has a wonderful collection of 1600 pieces of gold that show life, culture and the society in the pre-columbine age, from 500 AC to 1500 AC. It is located in the center of town, underneath the National Theater.

Jade Museum
The Jade Museum features the biggest pre-columbine jade collection in the Americas. In 5 thematic rooms the museum shows different objects mainly made with jade, gold, stone, bones and other materials from the pre-columbine age. It is located within the National Insurance building and is open from 8:30 to 15:30 on weekdays, and from 9:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays.

Contemporary Art Museum
This Museum is located in a very important and historical area in San Jose City. The Contemporary Art Museum is an "open multiple space" that features five exhibit galleries including an auditory used for diverse events.

Simon Bolivar Zoo and botanical garden
“Educate to preserve” this is the slogan of this zoo and botanical garden created in 1916 and inaugurated 5 years later. Visitors will see and learn about different animal and plant species. This zoo has also a museum that represents some of the Costarrican' culture in different ways.

Attraction Park
In this park, visitors can enjoy different types of roller coasters, and other electronic and mechanic games or just walk in the “Pueblo Antiguo”, which represents the old buildings and rural environments characteristic of the Costa Rica's twentieth century

Sabana Park
The Sabana Park is an important sport and cultural area located on the outskirts of San Jose. This park used to be the international airport and today features tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball courts, soccer fields, swimming pools, sand volleyball fields, softball fields, the National Gym, the National Stadium and more. On weekends many sport activities take place in this park.

Walking around
In and around San Jose City, travelers will find a wide variety of shops, restaurants, shopping malls, coffee shops, casinos and bars. The Central Avenue is a good option - it is a paved pedestrian mall of about 4 or 5 blocks in the center. Along the Central Avenue, visitors will find a lot of restaurants, banks, clothing shops, and department type stores.
