Sportfishing in Costa Rica

An enthusiastic fisherman will experience Costa Rica as the authentic paradise for a fishing extravaganza. How about having the chance of catching three-trophy fish -Tarpon, Guapote and Sailfish - in just one day, starting on the Atlantic coast and ending the same evening on the Pacific. The Caribbean coast is benefited with freshwater lagoons and rivers with numerous world-class lodges tucked away in the jungle. The best time of the year is from January to May when the rain comes and the water rises or from August to October, when the ocean flattens and boats can safely leave the river mouth.

The vast Pacific coastline provides for excellent deep sea fishing opportunities. In the crystal clear waters of Costa Rica, you will find Marlin, Tuna and Sail Sail, Wahoo, Tuna, Dorado, Roosterfish and Snook. Several different locations along Costa Rica's pacific coast serve as departure points for half-day, full-day, overnight, and multi-day fishing excursions, i.e. Golfito, Quepos, Papagayo, Flamingo Beach, Tamarindo, and Drake Bay.

The Fly Fisher has the opportunity to fish on jungle-rivers, lakes, and mountain rainforest streams. Only their uniqueness and beauty match the variety in tropical species of fish. Guapote (rainbow bass), Machaca, Mojarra, Snook, Tarpon, and Rainbow Trout are but a few. View wildlife in its natural habitat, fauna whose colors and scents are unique to these varied tropical waters!
