Description La Carolina Lodge

La Carolina Lodge is a rustic hotel which forms part of a ranch on the eastern slopes of Volcano Tenorio. It is located in a less traveled region of northwestern Costa Rica, amidst sunny jungles and volcanic mountains. In the evenings, the lodge and the cabins are a glow with oil lanterns and candles but Hotel La Carolina Lodge does provide limited lighting and electricity in the main lodge and houses if guests prefer. The hotel sits on a 170 acres property, nestled in the rainforest and fed by a freshwater river. The lodge is also a full-time cattle ranch and farm. Their Costa Rican staff is warm and friendly, and cooks excellent home-cooked meals. Home-style meals are cooked over a wood burning stove or open grill - fresh-squeezed orange juice and lemonade from a private grove of 750 citrus trees and many of the vegetables are hand picked daily from the garden. Their own dairy provides fresh milk and homemade cheese. Meals are "platos tipicos"- prepared from delicious, local Costa Rican recipes-with beef, pork, chicken, fish, beans and rice. Vegetarian meals are available upon request. Nearby, travelers will find the extraordinary Rio Celeste water fall, where you can swim the blue lagoon and simmer in volcanic hot springs. You can also ride through the ranch on horseback, walk through rainforests, meadows and hills, and through fruit groves, macadamia fields and endless green countryside. For sunbathing and swimming there is a wooden deck built over a natural, crescent pool fed by a river. And after a long day of hiking you can relax in a fire-heated tub. Other activities include bird and wildlife watching and you can take day trips to a wildcat refuge, Caño Negro, Volcano Arenal, river rafting and more!

The lodge overlooks a fresh water river and lush tropical forest. A deep shaded porch, with a fireplace, rocking chairs and hammocks, wraps around the lodge—a quiet place to cool off, nap, read and relax while watching the river flow. Hotel La Carolina Lodge offers the following accommodations: The main lodge which is perfect for families and groups, it sleeps 11 guests comfortably, with two bathrooms and piping hot showers. In the center of the lodge is a sitting area with a small library. There are 4 bedrooms; 3 double rooms and 1 triple room with 3 single beds. The private house on the hill includes 3 double beds, a private bathroom and a porch with table and hammock overlooking the lodge and the river. The Private “honeymoon” river cabin is located right at the river, and has a queen size bed, private bathroom, fireplace and a porch. It is perfect for honeymooners, couples or guests that like to enjoy the view and sound of the river. The private cabin behind the lodge is small and cozy with a queen size bed, a big private bathroom and a fireplace. And there is a secluded private house inside the property which is located a 10 minute walk from the lodge and reachable by 4x4 in the dry season. It has 2 separate bedrooms, kitchen, a private bathroom and a big porch, perfect for guests that really enjoy their privacy.
